Star Wars is one of the largest and most popular media franchises in history. There are movies, TV shows, streaming services, novels, comics, and video games. It all started with the movies, but Star Wars games have been around for almost as long. The first game was released in the late 70’s and fans still get games based on the franchise today.
They vary greatly in quality, from terrible to amazing. The latter group deserves the most attention. However, it is impossible to highlight all the good Star Wars games at once. You can focus only on the absolute best:
9 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
The Force Unleashed puts you in the shoes of Starkiller, Darth Vader’s promising apprentice. At his master’s behest, he travels the galaxy to eliminate the remaining Jedi. As such, it serves as a bridge between the first two film trilogies.
The story is engaging, but it’s the combat that truly makes the title stand out. The Force Unleashed, perhaps more than any other Star Wars game, makes you feel like an incredibly powerful Force user.
8 Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Exiled Jedi
The Jedi Knight series follows one of the greatest Star Wars video game characters, Kyle Katarn. In Jedi Outcast, he is a former Jedi mercenary working for the New Republic. To complete his mission, though, he must return to his Jedi ways.
Both Kyle’s mercenary and Jedi ways come into battle as he can use either a firearm or a lightsaber. There are also powers that can be used on enemies. But the most interesting thing is that you can choose between first-person and third-person play.
7 Star Wars: Republic Commando
Major films are mostly about Jedis and Sith Lords. Clone Troopers are also present in some, but are de facto background characters. However, they get their time to shine in Republic Commando. More specifically, the special ops team known as Delta Squad gets their time to shine while performing various missions.
This game is a tactical FPS where you play as a team leader and give orders to your crew. But you are not a hands-off leader. You too are in the middle of a battle.
6 Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Jedi: Fallen Order follows young Jedi Cal Kestis as he is pushed back into the Jedi and Sith conflict after years of hiding. This is in the world of Post Order 66, where the Jedi are being chased. As such, Carl must survive battles against stormtroopers and Inquisitors to aid the remaining Jedi Order.
They create captivating narratives full of powerful vocals. The gameplay is equally solid as the combat, climbing and puzzle solving are all very fun.
5 Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
There are a lot of great Lego games, and there are also a lot of fantastic Star Wars games. Some of the best of both categories are the awesome Lego Star Wars games. The Skywalker Saga is the biggest as it is an in-depth retelling of the three major film trilogies.
While playing, you control all kinds of characters from the franchise. Some play quite differently than others, as Princess Leia isn’t exactly a combatant comparable to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Whoever you’re controlling, it’s third-person fun.
4 Star Wars: Battlefront 2
2005’s Battlefront 2’s campaign takes you through several pivotal battles in the Star Wars universe. And it’s all told from the point of view of the clone troopers. But the story isn’t the aspect of the game that people love. After all, Battlefront 2 owes its reputation to its awesome multiplayer.
Each match pairs rival factions against each other. No matter which team you’re on, you can choose a class, and the goal is to defeat the opposing team no matter what type of game you’re playing. Sometimes you’ll have the chance to play as a faction hero, one of the main characters in a franchise like Han Solo or Darth Vader.
three Star Wars: The Old Republic
The Old Republic is an MMORPG set in the Star Wars universe. The exact story will depend on which class you choose to play. You not only choose your character class, but also choose your faction between the Galatic Republic and the Sith Empire. But your choices don’t make you good or bad. Morality is more blurred in this title than in most Star Wars media.
Like the story, battles are class dependent. You can choose which character you prefer to use the Force, lightsaber or blaster. When you’re not fighting, you’re making choices and exploring.
2 Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Jedi: Survivor takes place years after Fallen Order and features a more experienced Cal Kestis. However, he remains an underdog in his mission as he attempts to wreak havoc on the all-powerful Empire. During your escape, you encounter all kinds of wild and wonderful characters that add to the overall experience.
Besides meeting new friends, you will solve many clever puzzles and do a bit of climbing. But the most important thing is to engage in exciting battles against different types of enemies.
One Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Knights Of The Old Republic boasts one of the greatest Star Wars stories of all time. The Sith Lord known here as Darth Malak is causing serious trouble for the Galatic Empire. One of the few people who can take on him is an amnesiac protagonist who is bridging his past in the process.
During your travels, you meet all kinds of people and make many decisions. Some choices have a short-term impact, while multiple choices severely shape you. Sometimes things turn violent and you have to fight enemies in a unique form of turn-based combat. Admittedly, the combat doesn’t hold up as well as the excellent storytelling and writing.
