If you’re not an avid Dragon’s Dogma lore hound (or lore cow), the title of this article may leave you scratching your head. ‘Dragon’s Dogma 2′ opens in Hearthstone? A World of Warcraft spin-off?’ I’ll clear the air – no. It is one of the game’s kingdoms, mentioned in the first Dragon’s Dogma, but never seen before. But a sequel could change that.
Fans on the Dragon’s Dogma subreddit are pulling through the new trailer to check out some new details from footage already shown. One moment in particular got fans excited, and that’s the photo above. A landscape shot of a forest leading to the coast, revealing a small city on a cliff with mountains in the back and a ruined tower looming in the distance. It’s beautiful, but it can also be a key indicator of where the game is set.
“This scene shows the kingdom on the other side of Gransys’ Blue Moon Tower,” posted by SlickLikeATrout. “Could DD2 open in Hearthstone??”
Bluemoon Tower is in the first game. It is the home of the wizard outlaw Salomet and can be found in the Pastona Cavern area. It’s instantly recognizable, but everything in front of it isn’t, so we’re probably somewhere new. The likely answer, then, is that we are across the water.
Hearthstone is called that not because of Blizzard’s hit card game, but because Grende Hearthstone dominates. Little is known about the kingdom other than the fact that they love wine. The trailer also mentions ‘Vermund,’ which has fans scratching their heads. This is not one of the 4 kingdoms we know of, the other 3 being Voldoa, Meloire and Gransys.
However, SlickLikeATrout also has a theory on this. “Maybe it is the capital of one of them. [kingdoms],” they said. “But being in a completely different place isn’t too much of a stretch.”
Others assume that this is not a neighboring kingdom, but still Gransys across the sea from the Gransys from the first game, and we’re simply exploring an expanded version of the original map. This could also explain the existence of familiar landmarks, but even if that theory isn’t true and we’re in a new realm like Hearthstone, some of the comments share a sentiment of wanting to venture out to see how Gransys has changed. . . Maybe they’ll get their wish either way.
