Whether you enjoyed Wednesday’s PlayStation Showcase or not, what’s indisputable is that we showed off a lot of impressive things in Spider-Man 2. Many of you have been sifting through the trailers and gameplay since then, and some now believe we may. It even showed evidence that at one point during the game, players had to fight Peter Parker’s Spidey as Miles Morales.
There’s plenty of evidence that Peter is grappling with his new symbiote, but the most important moment for Miles to fight his mentor is when Spider-Man crashes through the warehouse ceiling. Tracking the lizard, Miles is interrupted by Peter, who stands menacingly in the dark with tentacles sticking out.
Lost-Lu posted a still image from that moment on the SpidermanPS4 subreddit, suggesting that the battle with the Symbiote Spidey will be a boss fight in the sequel. Many of you agree, and this exact moment has the potential to be the first of potentially many times Miles and Peter have to fight each other. Yes, we’ve seen a lot, but the gameplay and cutscenes would have been edited very carefully to not reveal too much about how the game’s story would unfold.
As mentioned, there’s more evidence that Peter’s relationship with his symbiote suit isn’t sound. The OG Spider-Man insists on continuing the chase alone at the end of the trailer, where he seems to like blood. Miles says he’s nothing like Peter. There is even a moment where Spider-Man throws a rescued civilian to the ground instead of carefully putting it down.
Kraven the Hunter turns out to be Spider-Man 2’s main villain, and Venom, which closed the nearly two-year-old trailer in the previous PlayStation Showcase, wasn’t shown at all. That Peter has his own symbiote suit suggests that those who thought Venom would work alongside the two Spider-Mans might be right. Even if he eventually softens up, I’m sure you’ll have to fight him too at some point. Some of you may think that Peter is Venom because we didn’t see the symbiote in the new video.
As for Peter’s new look, it’s one of those new details that Spidey fans are debating. The first game did a great job of recreating several iconic suits from throughout Spider-Man’s history. A lot of people don’t think Peter’s symbiote look fits (sorry). I think it looks great, but I also understand that the first game’s suit was so good, and that this game is on a whole new console, so expectations are high.
