If you’ve been using a PlayStation console regularly at any point in the past decade, you’ve likely experienced a mild panic attack after seeing a few thank-you emails about purchases you can’t remember. depended on it It’s a universal experience for most PlayStation fans who’ve traded in a few PS Plus freebies every time they become available for download.
Not everyone checks their email every day, so when you receive a thank-you message from your PlayStation for a purchase, you immediately jump to the worst conclusion. The platform has been doing this for years, largely contributing to the fan base’s pleas for PlayStation to stop sending out emails about PS Plus downloads. It looks like PlayStation has finally listened, as many fans are noticing that they are not receiving emails after downloading this month’s PS Plus product.
First mentioned on PlayStation Lifestyle (thanks to VGC), the Reddit thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is full of users who haven’t received an email after downloading Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Meet Your Maker, or Tails of Iron. Some people claim they haven’t received an email after downloading a title recently added to the PlayStation catalog. This suggests that PlayStation is finally starting to protect its inbox from an avalanche of free download receipts.
The reason I say “proposed” is that there has been no word from Sony or PlayStation about this change. There may be some kind of glitch in the automated email system that hasn’t been caught or fixed yet, but if you try to download a free PS Plus game right now, you won’t receive an email. I downloaded this month’s PS Plus game myself to confirm this story, and as of this writing, I can confirm that I haven’t received an email yet.
We’ll have to see if the PS Plus email finally stops completely. But I think I speak for most people. If something is broken, it’s better to leave it unmodified. If the same thing happens during the PS Plus giveaway in May, I think it’s safe to say that PlayStation has finally seen a reason.
Other PlayStation news recently announced that the Final Fantasy 16-focused PlayStation State of Play showcase will take place tomorrow. It’s highly unlikely we’ll see another announcement not related to Final Fantasy. If you’re interested, the show starts at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CEST.
