Process of Elimination is an adventure detective visual novel with colorful art just like the Ace Attorney games. The plot revolves around 14 members of a detective agency, linking together the mysterious identity of a murderer.
Players start at the bottom of the barrel playing Hojo Watto, an aspiring detective trying to make a name for himself. You are transported to an island named ‘The Mortuary’ and slowly befriend your fellows throughout the game.
This list includes only a few. Early game spoilers. Don’t read until you’ve completed Chapter 1!
14 Armor
With nothing more than an alias to describe exactly who he is, the Armor Detective is a strong, energetic, and chatty individual who roams the island covered in head-to-toe armor. His defining characteristic is his desire to protect and help his fellow mates.
His costume, old English speech, and flamboyant tone are what set him apart from the rest of the detectives in the alliance. His powers are somewhat comparable to Detective Rowdy’s and are impressive.
13 elegant
Dapper and well-groomed, Posh lacks the mental strength and wit to step out of the ideal detective’s shadow. She’s a rather annoying character who plays out the rich parent child analogy as often as possible in her dialogue.
The character design is rather aesthetic, but her usefulness during investigations renders her practically unviable in-game. She rarely connects with the character, as she rarely appears during the first hour of the game.
12 Renegade
With one of the most interesting character designs, Renegade Detective is a force to be reckoned with. As such, he usually wears a short leash with an explosive charge around his neck. He’s one of the most annoying aspects of the game you’ll encounter early on, and one of those unnecessary speed bumps that slows down your progress.
He’s smart, cunning, and has little right to be part of the roster, as his past is full of violence and murder. Nonetheless, he is adept at peering into the minds of criminals.
11 downtown
It’s lovely, but ultimately pretty annoying. Be prepared to see her a lot while she plays. The downtown detective has impeccable style and an outspoken personality. She is a high school student with an amazing ability to infer things from social interactions.
The character can investigate and interact with you better than most other detectives. She has mostly good manners and a decent heart to boot. For her sake, don’t let her near her Armor Detective.
10 mystic
Callous and somewhat stoic in their own way, the Mystic Detectives are tough cookies to wrap their heads around. He’s not only a veteran detective, he’s also a borderline geek when it matters. Once out of delirium, he’s actually a pretty valuable asset to sound observation.
His design makes him look rather cool and aesthetic, and he’s good at telling terrifying stories related to the occult while remaining calm.
9 difference
This shabby old man is not only the first NPC you meet, but also a veteran who has gathered an entire army and gathered in the island manor. The senior detective was very intimidating and smart when first introduced, giving off a smug yet wise vibe.
Although he died early, his vast experience and knowledge of his profession made for a rather interesting character, perhaps very close to solving the case.
8 ideal
The agency’s second-in-command detective is one of the most stylish detectives out there, and she’s the perfect candidate to dominate the ranks and push herself to the top.
The ideal detective is a smart and naive woman who is considered a female Sherlock Holmes. She is also the second-in-command of the detective agency and is capable of incredibly sound reasoning.
7 gourmet
Outspoken and charming, but downright food-obsessed, Gourmet is a nice treat to interact with compared to most of the other detectives at the agency, and you’ll find it much easier to convince her.
As someone who can consume poison, she is quite adept at spotting instances of poison use. She’s also a big fan of apprehending criminals and maintaining a sense of justice, so she’s a good match for you. She has a nose for sniffing out trouble.
6 rowdy
Despite a rocky start, her first interaction with the rambunctious detective, despite her dialect, did not reveal the heart and solemn promise she possessed. She is a headstrong character capable of some rather impressive physical abilities.
Her role in finding a secret passageway with Techie and motivating the other detectives proves that she is a solid detective responsible for holding the group together.
5 technician
A useful ally, but in a debilitating state. Techie Detective can form solid hypotheses and display sound logical reasoning.
Techie proves his expertise and flair with electronics and technology before anyone else by working with him through the game, winning easily, and actively helping his mechanical friends.
4 bookworm
As smart as it is capable, the Bookworm Detective is far from your average nerd. She is a valuable asset with some book smarts and street smarts. She’s only 11 years old, but thanks to her intuitive memory, she’s still one of your most valuable assets at your disposal.
The only thing that hinders her ability to survive is the trauma she suffered after losing both her parents at a young age and the fact that her memories haunt the painful scene.
three incompetent
Tasked with uncovering the whole case and deducing the culprit, Incompetent does her job quite well while living up to her assigned pseudonym. As annoying as his first introduction is, his fanboy antics and commitment to justice make him rather likable.
Wato Hojo is a rather competent Danganropa-inspired character. He also has “heroine” energy, so he’ll probably be able to solve the riddle. His ability to cope with all the exaggerated personalities is also rather impressive.
2 doleful
A timid but headstrong detective with a knack for taking risks, Doleful is a pleasure to be around and interact with. He’s also a useful tool to help you deduce where the silence trap is. He is of great help to you in the early game.
Not only is his character design somewhat unique, but he’s responsible for closing more cases than anyone else. His deductive reasoning ability also proves his rank.
One workaholic
A calm, overworked father, a simple man with an alert ego and surroundings, the workaholic detective is an ideal specialist who, compared to his peers, actually seems entirely dedicated to the search.
Despite being the 10th ranked detective in the alliance, the skills he brings to the table are invaluable to you, helping you solve problems and find traitors nearby.
